First Basketball Fruit

[China: Jan 26, 2010]
Over the last several years, our Shanghai team has been experimenting with new ways to get to know students and share Christ with them. One of those ways was basketball, but until this past Christmas, the effort hadn't borne fruit.

Back in November, our team met a local trade school student on the courts of Fudan University. Gucong loved to play basketball, and after getting to know our staff, he looked forward to playing with them.

At one point in their off-court conversation, our staff let him know that they were Christians--and Gucong was surprised. They didn't share much with him at the time, but gave him the address of the registered church they attended. They were pleased to see him at church one of the following weekends.

The next time they met him on the court, they invited him to the Christmas program the team was preparing at the same church. Gucong was excited to come. When time came for the invitation, he stood and came forward to pray to receive Christ. Since then, he's been faithfully attending church and studying in our follow-up course.

As the first fruit of their basketball outreach, Gucong has become a huge encouragement to the team.
