Michel & Diane Tripp [Staff since 1995]
Mike and Diane Tripp, from Louisville, KY, have served with TEL in the Philippines since 1995. Mike met Christ during his freshman year at the University of Louisville through the ministry of the Navigators. Diane came to Christ when she was 12 through a house prayer meeting. Both grew in ministry skills through the Navigators. Following the 1998 Philippines training program led by Roy Robertson, Mike joined with Senen Bandelaria and Fernando Garzon to form the TEL-Philippines Mobile Gospel Team. They traveled extensively across the nation over the next several years for open-air evangelism in cooperation with local churches. They also hosted three live-in training programs for Filipino evangelists during their 10 years in Batangas City. They have now relocated to Manila, where Mike assists the Manila team with university ministry while also being responsible for staff development and networking with churches and ministries for cooperative outreach and training.

Senen (Sonny) & Lea Bandelaria [Staff since 1990]
Originally from Lipa City, Senen worked as a tailor following high school. During TEL-Philippines' 1987-88 training program, TEL evangelistic Dale Macabale witnessed to Senen in the city park. Senen trusted in Christ and began to have regular Bible study with Dale. He was zealous in sharing his new faith and soon began to volunteer with the TEL team in various outreach projects. In 1990 he and Bhoie Garzon joined with team leader Noel Andaya to form a mobile gospel team based in Manila. In 1998, they relocated to Batangas City. He has preached in hundreds of evangelistic meetings in schools, parks, street corners, churches and meeting halls. He also teaches Bible and preaching in TEL's training programs for evangelists. Senen continues to serve as an evangelist with TEL while co-leading the Lipa ministry with Dale Macabale.

Fernando (Bhoie) & Elizabeth (Soy) Garzon [Staff since 1990]
Fernando (Bhoie) came to Christ in 1987 through a TEL evangelistic meeting in Lipa. Bhoie continued in regular Bible study at the TEL center and soon began to volunteer alongside Senen for outreach projects. In 1990, he joined with Senen and another national to form the TEL Mobile Gospel Team. He learned to preach and to handle various aspects of open-air evangelism. Then in 1998 the team relocated to Batangas City to work with Mike Tripp. For the next 7 years, Bhoie continued to preach, teach and train other evangelists as part of the TEL Mobile Gospel Team. In 2004, he married Elizabeth (Soy) and became the team leader.

Ronita (Ron-Ron) Fabrero [Staff since 1993]
Native of Romblon Island (off the east coast of Mindoro), Ronita came to Christ at an early age and arrived in Lipa City after college to find work. She was soon employed as a domestic helper in the home of Kumar and Dileeni Abraham. Dileeni noticed Ronita's keen interest in childrens ministry and trained her to lead Good News Clubs. In 1993 Kumar and Dileeni invited Ronita to join TEL staff, while continuing to live with them for training in ministry. She later joined Dale and Irma Macabale on the Lipa ministry team. Ronita currently teaches 3 childrens Good News Clubs each week, leads several Bible studies for high school girls, and assists the Lipa team with womens ministry and youth outreach.

Marlon Derige [Staff since 2004]
Marlon came to Christ through the witness of a church-planting team in his home, Quezon City. Bhoie Garzon organized the youth in the area, holding weekly Bible study with Marlon and his friends. Marlon began serving his local church as worship leader, and from time to time joined with TEL teams for evangelistic trips. In 2004, he was challenged to attend a year-long TEL training program, after which he was invited on staff as an intern, before becoming a full-time evangelist in 2006. Marlon continues to lead worship in various churches, but has added preaching, teaching and leading Bible studies with students and neighbors to his ministry.

Work with Us

Our Vision

Motivated by Christ’s Great Commission to preach the gospel to every creature, Training Evangelistic Leadership’s primary objective is to recruit, train, and send forth local Gospel teams that reap public decisions for Christ with personalized follow-up. In countries where public preaching is possible, teams are sent forth to publicly proclaim the gospel. In others, personal evangelism is emphasized. Emphasis is always placed on shepherding those who make decisions for Christ into local churches.

TEL teams operate with three primary ministry distinctives:

  1. SERVING the national culture and local society by leaving the fruit of our evangelism and follow-up within the local churches.
  2. BLENDING missionaries and nationals together with equal status and opportunities into a mutually uplifting relationship.
  3. CONTINUING our missionaries on a lifelong basis by their bonding with the language and culture and continuing to develop a living fellowship with Jesus Christ.

TEL labors to train Asian evangelists for the harvest in a home environment. We apply Mark 3:14 by inviting Asians to live “with us” in full-time training programs of several months duration, where they are quipped both in the classroom and on the job for effective evangelistic ministry. Graduates of TEL training programs serve in churches, mission agencies, and as TEL staff. TEL also helps equip church leaders in effective evangelism and disciplemaking through training seminars.

In addition to team evangelistic ministry, all TEL missionaries and national workers labor to multiply their witness through personal disciplemaking.

About TEL

Our Origins

Training Evangelistic Leadership (TEL) was launched in Singapore in 1970 by Rev. Roy Robertson out a recognized need to develop more full-time Asian evangelists. He invited six men from five Asian countries to live in his home for a year to receive on-the-job training in evangelistic ministry. The vision of TEL continued to expand as Roy and his wife Phyllis conducted similar training programs through homes in Japan, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines.

TEL was initially formed by Roy as a project of The Navigators but has since become an independent mission agency that operates with an international board of directors in Denton, TX. Roy, who founded and continues to serve as International Director of TEL, sailed to China in 1948 having been appointed The Navigators’ first missionary by the organization’s founder Dawson Trotman. Roy labored in the ministry of evangelism and disciplemaking through The Navigators in many Asian countries until his retirement in 1986. Upon his retirement, Roy renewed his commitment to continue the ministry of evangelism and training in Asia full-time through TEL. The resultant fruit of that commitment, TEL is now a mission agency which is blend of about half international missionaries and half national workers operating in 6 Asian countries and in the United States.

TEL continues to labor in South and Southeast Asia with a vision to preach the gospel to every creature through direct proclamation and through training others who also desire to labor in this vision. The harvest is still ripe in Asia and TEL is trusting God for full-time missionaries whom God has called to help complete the work of evangelism in Asia through serving in gospel teams and training others to do the same.

TEL Resources

TEL's ministry is to help equip God's people for effective ministry to others through evangelism and discipleship. Toward that end, we offer several types of materials for purchase and some of our overseas materials for direct download. Thanks to Discipleship Library (External Link), we are also pleased to make available many of Roy Robertson's messages from his 50+ years of missionary service.

May the Lord be glorified, His Gospel proclaimed and His Kingdom advanced through the use of all these resources.
